Discount codes for your members

A code your members enter themselves when they sign up in the app: how much discount, for how long, for whom and how often. And what you see in use and revenue.

Want to run a promotion, like 25% off the first three months, or a fixed discount for students? Create a discount code. Your members enter it themselves when they sign up for a membership in the app.

Creating a code. Go to Money → Memberships. Under Discount codes, choose New code. You need the Give discounts permission (the owner always has it).

What you set.

  • The code: 3 to 24 characters, letters, numbers, - and _. Upper or lower case doesn’t matter for your members.
  • The discount: a percentage (for example 25%) or a fixed amount per payment (for example €10). If the payment is less than the amount, that payment is free.
  • How long: once (the first payment), a number of payments (for example the first three) or always (for as long as the member stays).
  • Also on the joining fee: the same discount then also comes off the joining fee.
  • Valid from and until: outside those dates the code doesn’t work. Anyone who already used it keeps their discount.
  • How often in total, and once per member.
  • For which memberships. If you choose none, it applies to all your memberships with a billing period, including new ones.

Where a code doesn’t work.

  • On a class pass or another one-off payment: a code only applies to memberships with a billing period.
  • A number of payments isn’t possible with a membership per week or per 4 weeks. Choose once or always there.
  • With a long trial (a month or more on a monthly membership), once or a number of payments doesn’t work. With a weekly membership with a trial, once doesn’t work. Always does. The dialog warns you when that’s the case.
  • A member can’t use a code together with points. With a code, no points are spent.

A short first period. If your members pay on the 1st of the month and start halfway through, that short first period is the first payment: once applies only to that, and with three payments it’s that period and the two months after it. If that period is shorter than three days (signing up in the last three days of the month), it gets the discount as a bonus and the payments count from the 1st.

A renewal price. If a membership has a different price after the first payment, the discount applies to that price from the second payment on. The member sees this when signing up.

Use and revenue. The list shows for each code how often it was used (for example 3 of 10), how many members are checking out right now, and the revenue: what those members paid on the membership with the code. You also see the code with the member, under Money → Memberships and in their file.

The maximum. A member who is checking out holds a place until the payment page closes (one hour at most). That way a code is never used more often than you wanted.

Changing, turning off and deleting. As long as nobody has used the code, you can change everything and delete it. After that the discount itself is fixed; you can still change the dates, the maximum and the memberships. Want to stop? Choose Turn off. Want to give something else? Create a new code.

If a member switches membership, the discount stops: the code belongs to the membership they signed up with. While the discount runs, a switch always starts at the next period. If a member pauses, a discount for a number of payments keeps running in months.
